Good day to
everyone. As the Founder President of IFMSL, I am pleased to join you all on
this year’s FM day celebrations and wish thank the organisers in FM unit of
University of Moratuwa for giving me this opportunity to address the FORUM.
As you all know
this Year’s FM day falls during a period where whole world is influenced by the
pandemic caused by COVID 19.All eyes, ears, minds and hearts have been focused
on this epidemic. Facility Managers face intense demand for demonstrating to
their occupants that they are providing a clean, healthy, sustainable and safe
facility.
As you all know Facility Managers are among the first responders on the
front line of this pandemic Currently the entire world is undergoing the post
epidemic period and we as Facility Managers have very clear responsibility to plan
out the recovery of business and
critical infrastructure facilities and keep them ready for operations.
It should be well noted that preparedness for recovery is the key
factor to be considered by the Facility Managers at this juncture.
It is obvious that lockdown would have created a significant economic
impact in Sri Lanka and Government has now taken a decision to invite public
and private sector to re-start and to re-open all businesses. In this context
work places, work practices and work environments may require certain
modification to prevent possible transmission of COVID19 . Therefore it is the responsibility
of the Facility Manager to ensure that the Facility is ready for restarting or
reopening work towards this goal.
To support the FM professionals our Institute has developed Manual
depicting guidelines to educate facility Managers on preparing their work
places in order to combat and eradicate this disease from Sri Lanka. This
Manual is available in Institutes website for reference.
To conclude I would like to thank organises for initiating this Forum
to celebrate this year’s FM DAY
Thank You
